This is now the biggest non-government educational organisation in India .It covers broadly the entire spectrum of educational activity in the country .At present the society is running more than 700 educational institutions. The society established its first institution,, D.A.V school in Lahore on June 1,1886, with Lala Hans Raj(later Mahatma Hans Raj) as its honourary headmaster .The main objective of the D.A.V institution is to impart such education to the children as ,while it helps to imbibe in them a sense of deep patriotism as well as pride in their ancient culture as well as civilization, it is also instills in them a disciplined outlook deeply dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge .These institutions aim at creating environment truly conductive to the development of the child mentally , physically as well as spiritually.The D.A.V College Trust as well as Management Society is already more than a hundred years old . This was the beginning of great movement which is now popularly known as D.A.V movement. They formed the  Dayanand Anglo Vedic (D.A.V) college trust as well as management society which was registered in 1855. After his demise in 1883 , a group of socially- oriented people decided to raise a memorial which should be a befitting tribute to his great ideals. At a time when Hindustan was divided between the various schools of philosophy as well as theology , Swami Dayanand went straight back to the vedas as he considered them the most authoritative repository of knowledge as well as truth spoken in the "Words Of God" . Swami Dayanand was born on February 12,1824 in Tankara in the western Indian state of Gujarat.
